WORSHIP: LIFE'S GREATEST MOMENTS

(A Book You Should Read)

In this fine book, Bro. Owen Olbricht gives us his views on Christian Worship.  His observations are the fruit of a lifetime of study and faithful service among our churches.  They are based solidly on the teachings of Christ.  In chapter one he carefully defines worship, showing from Scripture both what it is and is not. He believes that, "The worshiper does not need a cheerleader to excite, arouse, awaken or stimulate worship" (p. 20).

Chapter two emphasizes that acceptable worship must be God-centered rather than man-centered. Chapters 3-7 explore the worship offered to God in pre-Christian times.  The last half of the volume is devoted to true worship, i.e., that authorized by Christ, the founder, head and savior of the church.  He does an excellent job of demonstrating that acceptable worship is based on the New Testament and not the Law of Moses, the human conscience or human traditions.  His eighth chapter demonstrates the folly of those who argue that everything we do in life  is worship (pp. 108-110).  The ninth chapter is devoted to worship with singing.  He does an admirable job of demonstrating that only vocal music has divine sanction.  He analyses and refutes the typical objections raised by denominationalists and change agents.

The contents of this fine book are arranged in 13 chapters, making it convenient for class study.  Preachers will find useful material for a series of sermons on the Worship God has Ordained.  Bro. Olbricht has provided us a valuable resource for all who wish to distinguish the biblically approved worship of God from that being promoted by the agents of change.  It may be ordered from Gospel Light Publishing Co., P. O.  Box 38, Delight, AR 71940.
