Baptize Immediately – Is It Necessary?

Dear: Dr. Waddey:
"Could you please explain to me why you insist on baptizing a person immediately when they confess their faith?" - Eston M. and Bertha

Dear Easton and Dear Bertha:
The Scriptures make it clear that one's salvation is not complete until he has been baptized.

Jesus said:

  • "He that believe and is baptized shall be saved" (Mark. 16:16).
  • Ananias told Saul of Tarsus, "Arise and be baptized and wash away thy sins" (Acts 22:16).
  • Peter wrote that "baptism doth also now save us" (I Peter 3:21).
  • Notice that Paul baptized the jailor of Philippi "immediately" even though there had just been a serious earthquake and it was midnight (Acts 16:33).

Why do you suppose he did so?  From these verses it is evident to conclude that the saving benefits of Christ's blood are not ours until we comply with his terms of salvation.

According to the scriptures, a person not-baptized is a person not-saved.  Hence we are anxious to help him reach the safety of God's pardon as soon as is possible.

John Waddey
