How Can I Join Your Church?

Dear Mr. Waddey:
How can I become a member of your church? - Jane Fraze/Fred G.

Dear Jane and Fred:
I am pleased that you want to be part of our fellowship and worship. Your question however, must be directed to Jesus for he alone is head over all things to the church (Ephesians 1:22). He purchased the church by his death on Calvary (Acts 20:28). Membership in Christ's church is not mine to give or take away.

If we ask Christ, his answer is YES, if we will comply with his terms of admission. He said, "Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden..." (Matthew 11:28). He sent his disciples into all the world to announced the good news to every person that they could be part of his church. (Mark 16:15-16). The church's mission is to extend his invitation to all who inhabit the earth (Revelation 22:17).

The conditions of membership are simple and can be met by all who desire to be in the church.

  • First there must be faith in God and Jesus. For without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing unto him (Hebrews 11:6).
  • There must be a determination to bring your life into harmony with God's will.
  • You must resolve to put away all of your sins (Acts 17:30). This is called repentance.
  • You must be willing to publicly confess your faith in Jesus as Lord and master of your life (Romans 10:9-10).
  • You must be willing to be buried with Christ in baptism (Romans 6:3-4).

We will not vote on your worthiness, only Christ knows your heart. You will not be required to attend catechism classes, nor will you have a period of probation.

If you want to be a member of Christ's church, please don't hesitate to let us know your desire. We will help you fulfill your duty and Jesus will add you to his church without delay.

Before you pillow your head tonight, you can be a member of the church of Christ.
