LETTER TO A BROTHER WHO ACCEPTS  HALF THE MESSAGE OF GOD

The following is my response to a brother who wrote citing a list of twenty or so passages on love and the sin of wrongly judging a brother.

Dear Bro. Roy:
Thanks for taking time to write expressing your thoughts about my Parable of the Mosquito. I went back and read it and could not understand what there was about it that so agitated you, unless of course you are part of the change movement yourself.

All of the wonderful verses you cited from God's Word, I believe, accept, preach and live by. But I also believe and teach those other verses that you failed to mention. Those that warn about false teachers (Matt. 7:15). Those that say mark them that cause division contrary to the doctrine of Christ (Rom. 16:17). Those that teach us to hold fast to the faithful word (Tit.1:9). Do you accept them as part of the message of Christ we are to believe and teach?

One of the tenets of postmodernism is that we cannot pass judgment on anyone, any religion, any doctrine or practice....unless of course a person fails to go along with postmodernism.  It sounds to me as if you have embraced this philosophical system and allowed it to control the way you read God's Word.

If you had been a member of the church of Christ in the era from 1875 to 1910, do you think you would have gone with the Christian Churches who embraced an agenda of change, or would you have stood firm with others in the church of Christ? Had everyone back then thought and acted as you suggest, there would be no congregations of the church of Christ for you to be part of today.  Think about it. May God help all of us to love his Son, His Church, His Word and be faithful to all so that we may be truly his disciples.
