Letter to the Editor:
Christian Chronicle

Dear Editor:

Lindy Adams' dialogue with Dr. Ron Wright is interesting. Are we to understand that the current administration of Oklahoma Christian University feels Dr. James Baird was wrong for having the demonstrators removed from the campus back in 1969? The rhetoric of Dr. Wright sounds more like that of Black political leaders than of a gospel preacher and elder.
He only sees "slightly more tolerance" among today's Christians, but when asked, "are black churches willing to integrate with white churches? he says "No." He blames "ignorance and white male power" for "our continued non-relationship."  If a white brother should speak of the same problem and blame it on "ignorance and black male power," I wonder how the doctor would respond and how you would report it? While we grant that there is not 100 percent integration of black and white Christians in America it is far from being a "non-relationship." Every school is integrated, as are our camps, lectureships etc. One would be hard pressed to find a congregation that would not accept black Christians in fellowship.
Remember, he said, "No," when asked if black churches are willing to integrate with white churches.  It would also be interesting to hear just how "the Church" should go about sponsoring "a national healing summit" and what it would entail.
