THE ASSURANCE OF FAITH AND THE UNCERTAINTY OF EVOLUTION

Aren't you glad your faith and understanding of things is not based on the watery foundation of evolution? The Associated Press informed us this week that two teams of Scientists "have found evidence" that the Earth is really 30 million years older than previously believed. "The refined figures yielded a precise date–4.530 billion years..." for the age of the earth. Of course that figure is good only until some other scientist comes up with another theory. Last month another team found some bones in East Africa that made them recalculate their suppositions about the age and origin of the human race. Those whose creator is evolution can never be sure of anything. Their history changes from month to month. They are willing to believe anything, even the wildest speculation, just so they do not have to take the Biblical account seriously.

We who are lowly, old-fashioned Christians still believe exactly what our parents, grandparents and generations before believed about these matters. " In the beginning God created the heavens and earth" (Gen. 1:1). In six days, "the heavens and earth were finished, and all the hosts of them... and he rested on the seventh day from all his work..." (Gen. 2:1-2; Ex. 20:11).

We believe that on the sixth day, God created man in his own image and likeness and gave them dominion over the rest of his creation (Gen. 1:26). The first of the human race was Adam and Eve, created fully human, able to speak, capable of communion with God. They were able to make decisions and were accountable for their conduct (Gen. 2:18-3:19). They were not sub-species of primates such as chimps or apes. He also made them male and female and instituted monogamous marriage from the beginning (Mat. 19:4). He did not create a third sex or gender.

Our earliest ancestors were farmers and shepherds; they lived in cities and some in tents (Gen. 4:17-19). They were not "cave men," they came later. They knew the science of metallurgy and arts such as music and poetry (Gen. 4:21-24).

The ancestors of those poor evolutionists were millions of years just getting out of the slime pit and millions more walking on their knuckles.

Faith, founded on reliable facts and information such as God's Word (Rom. 10:17), is the anchor of the soul in the midst of the swirling waters of doubt and unbelief (Heb. 6:19).
