WE NEED GOD'S GRACE
All of us need God's grace. Without it we would surely perish. It is tragic that what is so desperately needed and so readily available to all is so widely misunderstood.
Our word, "grace" comes to us from the Greek term charis and speaks of God's favor, a gift we cannot earn, purchase or merit. Paul's states it thusly: "for by grace have ye been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, that no man should glory" (Ephesians 2:8-9). Again he says, "not by works done in righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy he saved us..." (Titus 3:5).
A study of the various uses of the word is helpful:
The grace of God is manifold and all sufficient. With it, we can be victorious over every obstacle in life (I Corinthians 15:10; II Corinthians 12:9).
We cannot be saved apart from God's grace (Acts 15:11).
By His grace we stand justified before our God (Romans 3:24). Christianity is a system of grace rather than of law keeping, as was the Old Covenant (Romans 6:14).
We cannot successfully live the Christian life and resist Satan's allurements without God's grace (II Corinthians 9:8).
Whatever good we accomplish in this life is by His grace (I Corinthians 15:10).
God's marvelous grace provides us consolation and hope (II Thessalonians 2:16).
"We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ; through whom also we have had our access by faith into this grace" (Romans 5:1-2).
The faith that will bring us within the safety of God's grace is the faith that humbly obeys God's will (James 2:24).
