THIS IS HOW THOU SHALT MAKE IT

When God found it necessary to destroy with a flood the wicked race of Noah's day, he made provision to save righteous Noah and his family. The means by which they would be saved was to build an ark (i.e., a huge ship or barge) suitable to lift them and a remnant of animal life safely above the overwhelming deluge. God did not leave Noah to figure out how to construct the ark.

He said to him "and this is how thou shalt make it" (Genesis 6:15).  He then gave him detailed plans which included the type of wood, the dimensions, and all other necessary information for construction.

Noah and his family set to work to build that massive lifeboat, undaunted by magnitude of the task or the time it would take to complete it. While all others perished, they were saved without loss from the floodwaters because, "thus did Noah according to all that God commanded him" (Genesis 6:22).

From this great story we can draw some valuable lessons. Our wicked world will one day be destroyed by God (II Peter 3:10). But God has made provision for our safe escape from that cataclysmic event.  Rather than an ark, he has given us salvation in Christ.  In clear and certain terms he has told us "this is how thou shalt do it." We must believe on Jesus as our Savior (John 8:24). We must repent of our sins (Luke 13:3).  we must confess our faith in Christ as Lord (Romans 10:9-10). We must be immersed in water for the forgiveness of our sins (Acts 2:38;22:16).

Would Noah have been safe had he built his ark differently than God instructed him?  Will you be safe if you fail to prepare your soul precisely as God has told you?

This same lesson can be applied to the way we organize our church; the way we worship in our singing,, our communion, our giving and every other aspect of the Christian life.

God is not willing that you should perish (II Peter 3:9).  He has given you a safe plan of escape. Be like Noah and do according to all that God commands you.
